Martingale Postgraduate Foundation announces new partnerships

Martingale Postgraduate Foundation expands with new partnerships with three leading UK universities to offer postgraduate degrees in Mathematics

The Martingale Foundation is delighted to announce its partnership with University of Bristol, University of Edinburgh, and University of Manchester. The foundation is supporting a new generation of STEM postgraduates and with its partners, enabling access to fully funded scholarships in STEM subjects at leading research institutions in the UK.

The Martingale Foundation was established last year with the belief that family income should not be a barrier to the pursuit of excellence. Postgraduate degrees are increasingly associated with academic and career advancement, however, student loans often fall short of tuition fees and living costs. This puts postgraduate study out of reach for many who cannot fund their studies. The Martingale Postgraduate Scholarship is our flagship programme that supports passionate and talented students facing financial barriers to pursue postgraduate degrees and excel in them.

A Martingale Scholar receives a fully funded scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at one of the partner universities along with tailored support to apply for a Martingale PhD scholarship. The funding includes all tuition fees and research expenses, including a tax-free stipend for living costs.

Martingale Scholars also join a prestigious development programme that provides training and experiences beyond their university offer to build a pioneering community of STEM leaders. This is a multi-year programme of support, including leadership training, career development and engagement opportunities. Through the programme, Scholars gain access to a network of leading universities and businesses, including research and industry placements, and have opportunities to meet with leading figures from across academia and industry.

Cassie Hugill, Chief Executive of the Martingale Foundation shares ‘We are delighted to welcome the Universities of Bristol, Edinburgh, and Manchester to our growing list of university partners. Their strong commitment to high-quality student experience and the mission of Martingale will ensure talented individuals reach their goals and become future leaders in STEM. Through these partnerships we can expand Martingale’s support across the UK, offering more diversity in opportunity to Martingale Scholars. We look forward to working together to ensure that family income is not a barrier to the pursuit of excellence.’

University of Bristol, University of Edinburgh, and University of Manchester, each bring a unique experience for Martingale Scholars who will attend, allowing the Scholars to undertake world-class research and access to leading facilities.

These new partners join the founding cohort of five universities: University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, Kings College London, University of Oxford, and University College London, with the inaugural cohort of scholars taking up their place this autumn, leading a new generation of STEM postgraduates.

Applications for the 2024 Martingale Scholarships are open until the 25th of October 2023. We are looking for candidates who have the academic potential and the motivation to undertake postgraduate research, while contributing to the cohort of Martingale Scholars. Incoming Martingale Scholars now have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate degrees in maths and related topics at these new partner universities.
