Work with us

Working at the Martingale Foundation

At Martingale, we believe that family income should not be a barrier to the pursuit of excellence.

Our programmes focus on supporting students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Our flagship programme, the Martingale Postgraduate Scholarship, supports students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue postgraduate degrees and excel in them.

Student Advisory Board Members

We are seeking two current PhD students to sit on our Advisory Board to help guide the work that we do.

We are seeking people who are passionate about our work, preferably with relevant lived-experience and/or evidence of contributing to widening access in postgraduate study. We are looking for a STEM PhD student (although not necessarily in the Mathematical Sciences) from any UK university.

About the role

The Advisory Board has strategic oversight of Martingale, ensuring that ambitious strategic goals are set and worked towards effectively. The Board works in collaboration with the CEO to shape and steer the new Foundation, offering support and challenge as part of this.

The role is a 12 month commitment, with attendance at 4-6 board meetings a year, plus ad-hoc correspondence. There is a £150 reimbursement per board meeting (including all associated preparation and pre-reading), with reasonable travel expenses reimbursed.

For full details about the role, please read the role description in more detail here.

To apply, please submit an A4 cover letter, along with a 2-page CV via email to Applications close 14 March 2024.

We will schedule online interviews in late March. If selected, you will have the opportunity to attend a Board meeting as an observer before officially joining.

Martingale Foundation is an inclusive organisation that embraces diversity. We encourage applications from people from all backgrounds and experiences. All reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure members can contribute effectively to meetings, including covering travel and other costs where required.
