The demand for advanced engineering skills is growing and we are excited to support innovative research opportunities in fusion energy

For the UK to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and advance world-leading research, supporting talent and innovation is crucial. Specialist skill sets are a necessity within the sector, which present a significant barrier for students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

Martingale is proud to be supporting scholars to study nuclear research at PhD level, with our first cohort of engineering scholars starting in Autumn 2026.

“The development of sustainable fusion energy, and maximising the scientific and economic benefits that arise from it, are industrial priorities for the UK Government. To meet this challenge we need to bring a new generation into the fusion sector to take on the clean energy jobs that will come as the industry grows. It is important to us that these opportunities are available to all parts of our society and we are excited to partner with the Martingale Foundation on this journey to enable equitable access for fusion doctorates regardless of background”
